Does the roof rack hurt your mpg big? I read it does and it is very loud. I want to add it to my car, but have been hesitant.

The OEM bars are very aerodynamic, so they make almost no noise and make no difference in MPG. I only take them off when I want to run the car through an automatic wash.
The only issue I have with the OEM bars is that the front one flexes more than I’d like. I’m working on a solution for that.
The box is a little noisier, but doesn’t hurt the mileage much. I usually get around 23 mpg on the highway (with or without the bars). I’ve managed to get 25 mpg, but that wasn’t typical. With the box on top, I get around 21 mpg with mostly freeway driving. Under mixed city/highway conditions, I usually get around 19 mpg.

It’s mostly normal. There’s a rattle in the back that nobody can track down. Putting some weight in the cargo area seems to quiet it down, so it may just be the cargo area cover making the noise.

That’s not bad. I thought a rattling interior was just a Subie thing

The dashboard has a few rattles that go away in the summer or once the defroster warms things up in the winter. The rattles in the back are new.

Oh that’s good to know with the bars. I was debating getting them for my car for my surfboard. Right now I just run soft racks across the top, but it does do some paint damage. Not too much, but it would be nice to get them up a bit more. Do you have the WRX because if so that is sweet mileage? I’m averaging 28mpg in the 08' standard 2.5i, that’s about 80% highway 20% city.

A surfboard would be fine with the OEM bars. You can find them several places online for less than $150.
I do have the WRX, but I wouldn’t call 19 mpg sweet, especially when my wife’s Explorer, which makes 35 more horsepower and weighs 40% more, still gets 21 mpg. Yeah, it’s not nearly as fast, but still....

Valid points, I meant the 23mpg, but they’re older cars. The new ones have some serious range for an AWD car. Definitely going to hop in on getting the bars. I really like the look and the functionality would be super helpful. I have at least 3 years left with this car if I’m lucky. 130k on the odo just rolled by.
